Relearning Rest: Reflections from Our Baja Retreat
A story of shared laughter, quiet mornings, and friendships formed in the sun.
A week in Baja awakened something beautiful—our capacity to rest, to breathe, and to reconnect with the parts of ourselves we often rush past. What unfolded was magic: soft mornings, shared meals, deep conversations, and a reminder that slowing down is its own form of healing.
Our recent yoga retreat in Baja Mexico wasn’t just a getaway… it was a week of rest, softening, and remembering who we are beneath the busy layers of everyday life. The day after arrival, after breakfast & yoga I could sense there was an uneasy feeling amongst the group. I started to ask the group how everyone was feeling.. we had a common issue.... NO ONE knew what to do with our rest day. It was a day of massages, pool chats, naps and happy hour with guacamole. Myself included. We chatted about it, softened a little, went for walks, read books and eventually we could settle into rest. I think it's horribly sad that we live a hustle life. Hurry and go to school. Hurry to work. Hurry to have the kids grow. Hurry to retirement. UGH what's the rush?!
As the days went on phones got left behind. Laughter filled the air. Stories were being shared. One of my favorite parts of every retreat is watching strangers become friends. Meals turned into long conversations, games and belly laughs! Mornings turned into rituals, the soft good mornings whispers hot mugs of coffee in hand, even the quiet moments had a sense of shared softness.
Retreats are magic.
They help us remember who we are and what softness and presence feels like.
